Swim meets are the heart of competitive swimming. The Butte Tarpons compete in 10 to 15 swim meets annually, although participation is voluntary. Tarpons qualify for the Montana State Championship meets by swimming in invitational and open meets in the state and region. Advanced swimmers may qualify for regional, zone, sectional, and national meets.

Upcoming Swim Meets:

• 2008 HLST Capital City (7/12-7/13): Contract, Entry Sheet-due 6/29
• 2008 Big Sky State Games(7/18-7/20): Contract & Entry Sheet-due 7/11
• 2008 MT LC State Championships in Bozeman (7/25-7/27): Contract, Entry Sheet-due 7/14

Currently the Tarpons host one regular swim meet during the year:

  • Mining City Classic: A 3-day Short Course, in October or November at the Butte Family YMCA Pool. For 2008 this meet will be held November 14-16.

Information about this meet will be posted approximately one month before the meet on the Montana Swimming web site.

Also, the Tarpons won the bid to host the 2009 Montana Short Course State Championship meet to be held March 6-8.
